Master Bedroom Retreats

Master Bedroom Retreats

Master bedroom retreats are in top demand for interior projects!

Nothing says “I love you” like a soft, personal master bedroom where you can get away. Luxe fabrics, soft or deep tones, comfort throws, seating areas, and a place to settle down for some Netflix movie watching make this room of the house a personal retreat and favored spot!

Consider this hotel style upholstered master bed and lush bedding. I took this photo while at the last High Point Show in the Universal Furniture showroom for inspiration and ease in presentation to a client. The dark ceiling adds rich elegance we long for, and a collection of assorted pillows in prints adds interest and comfort. Side tables sit in front of the continuing upholstered headboard. Love! You’ll have the feeling of being at your favorite Four Seasons location in this room!

Another one of our preferred resources, Bernhardt Furniture, includes this inviting four poster bed with a combination of chic reclaimed wood and brushed metal fittings + upholstered head and footboards. Whether a master or guest room, this bedroom is layered with comfort. Pillows, coverlet and duvet all add the elements of lush relaxation. There’s something about a canopy bed that is very inviting and special. There are an abundance of such right now on the market, and our design team will be happy to show you some personal favorites. With a few guidelines from you, you’ll be well on your way to a romantic retreat.

This master bedroom is a project I designed several years ago in Michigan for a busy executive couple who spend some much-needed down time in this beautiful room when possible. Soft blues and grays, modern prints, and Vanguard Furniture‘s Cleo bed complete this room and make another inviting retreat. Beautiful outdoor vistas of the grounds and private lake create a serene scene.

These favorite Bernhardt horn chairs come into play for reading, a night cap and conversation. This is where the outside view is dreamy! The chairs are upholstered in natural hide and you’d be surprised at their comfort! *Sigh*

A former collection from the Black-eyed Susan Urban Loft was set with this #ohsosusan glamorous brushed brass canopy bed. The dark velvet headboard is complimented by the rich walnut side tables and highboy. Brass finishes are abundant in today’s interiors and they bring warmth and charm to any bedroom. I recently did my guest room in these tones and it is one of my favorite rooms of the house.

With or without the charm of historic Bucks County stone, this grouping is a charmer and very nicely priced! Call my design staff for more details. Don’t miss the Masland wool leopard area rug! Oohlala.

My guest room below; a bit brighter than real life! The next photo gets the mood and tone right. One papered wall, deep rich tones of eggplant velvet and bedding, along with rich wood tones and brushed brass tell the story. This is the only room in the house I used brass in and I embraced it with lighting, hardware, accent mirror and accessories. It’s a cozy room for a weekend getaway for guests. I love it! This collection from Universal Furniture is the same one featured in the photos above. See how a few changes in color, bed selection, and accents can make the same collection have an entirely different feel.

This is a better feel for the rich brown and plums of the room. I adore the hand-knotted Jaipur Living rug that grounds everything. Below, see the ample storage provided by the dresser as well as night stands. Note the brass stretchers at the base and the richness this finish adds to the room. Details make all the difference.

Here is a closeup of the hardware finish:

When possible, a small chair for reading, computing, or putting on your socks (!) is a needed and personal touch for a bedroom. This one, from Bernhardt Furniture, is the perfect size. Barely 29×30, it sits in the corner of the room and brings the deep, rich tones again into play. Handwoven shades were custom selected from Hartman and Forbes for privacy and finishing the windows.

I’m all set for guests, so make your reservations!

To finish the room, my Christmas gift this year from my talented and darling son-in-law, Timm, were these posh barn doors! Mirrored on the outside… rich brushed brass hardware and custom handles to die for.  I had them finished in a sleek, deep Sherwin Williams color, SW7082 Stunning Shade. It’s an #ohsosusan gray and eggplant hued tone that takes you right into the room. #purestyle

One more room shot from my market photos with this lovely Bernhardt bedroom below. The combination of deep walls, upholstered channeled headboard with nailhead trim, and hair on hide chests create a warm and inviting bedroom. Contrasting light carpet completes the look for this stylish custom bedroom.

In the example below, the romantic curved headboard hugs the occupant, and again, deep, dark painted walls bring the elegance and warmth to make this a favorite spot! Penshell accent chests give a beautiful contrast to the drama of this room. Here is a good example of added seating into the master bedroom when space allows. This is the perfect formula for a private retreat within the master bedroom.

I’ll review more lush and luxurious interiors in the next few days, so stay tuned for more of my favorite design inspirations as we approach Valentine’s Day!

A New Look Part III

A New Look Part III

Introducing Susan’s all-new Urban Loft collection! It’s reclaimed, industrial style on a budget. Read about the interior design just unveiled for our Urban Loft living room and dining room, and make sure to stop by our retail store to take it all in!

The third room in our newly restyled Urban Loft features a fabulous canopy bed in a very stylish satin brass finish. Ahhhh!! It’s a real home run for style and comfort, and provides the setting for a cozy, personal hideout. Set against the Bucks County historic stone walls of my retail store, Black-eyed Susan, this room depicts modern yet classic style. Let’s call it “neo-traditional.” Nothing to be afraid of, totally new, yet brimming with a traditional twist. The bed features a partially upholstered headboard and can be used as a platform bed, or one with a box spring and mattress.

There is an entire grouping of companion pieces with a stunning high boy, side tables and console/dresser. Finished in a deep, rich chocolate wood tone, this collection would be a beautiful addition to any restyling, whether it’s a new or old home, a master bedroom or guest room. As you can see, extremely versatile.

I’ve paired it with a lovely Masland leopard print wool area rug, cut to order in size, with an overlay of two hide rugs to lock in #purestyle.

The companion high boy dresser has the same rich satin brass hardware and stretcher runner at the base, and a little extra surprise in the bottom drawer…cedar lining for all your fine cashmere or silk ascots!

Here’s that cedar lined bottom drawer!

Side tables feature a glass top which has a floating drawer, giving room for interesting objects of the heart, perhaps a small tray with a favorite quote.

I’ve paired white and gold toned lamps and accessories to complete the look. Love. Love. Love.

I hope you’ll stop by to see the room for yourself if you live near or in Bucks County! We have the ability to ship furniture all over the U.S. as well, so it can be yours no matter where your roots lie. Bedrooms should be a favorite hangout space. Don’t let your’s become an “I’ll get to that room someday” project! Style, personal, chic, cozy, hip. All words to add to the description of your personal space. Let Black-eyed Susan be the inspiration you need to make it happen.

Tibetan Lamb Trend!

Tibetan Lamb Trend!

Trending for some time now is Tibetan Lamb…accents in every form. I chose to use this delightfully stylish, soft, curly, textural treat in more than just one room of my new home!

2017-01-21 09.00.20

In the Master Bedroom, I threw a small lamb rug over an ottoman between two comfy chairs. It brings a certain chicness to an otherwise plain ottoman, and let me tell you, it’s delightful on bare feet! Try tossing one in an asymetrical way over the end of a chaise, over the back of a chair, or at the end of the bed. And, just a hint, you can find these colors right now in my retail store, Black-eyed Susan; mint green; chrome gold; navy; light gray; and dark gray. Yep, I’m a fan!

If you look closely, under the window, behind the far chair, there is an acrylic based bench…you guessed it, Tibetan lamb. Oh. My. #purestyle #ohsosusan

Here’s another view of the throw over the ottoman. I’m crazy for this look!

Dreamy master bedroom

Dreamy master bedroom

I haven’t spent much time blogging about our new home, so take a look at this view of one of my favorite bed frames. Polished stainless steel makes this bed glamorous and hip. The sexy little side tables are from a favorite collection I sells loads of! Available in several sizes and styles-chests, dressers, accent tables. Beautiful and chic. And it’s not only bedrooms we are using these in…try your living room, hallway, or foyer! There are multiple pieces from this collection right now on the retail floor for you to love! In the center of the room, you’ll also find the Bling chandelier (33″ diameter!) calling my name. Just about all of my favorites found a home in this space.

What master bathroom is complete without a polished nickel Tibetan lamb director’s chair?! With ample room to add an accent chair beside the deep soaking tub, this room becomes a personal space and a real favorite. Don’t be afraid to add real room furniture in the master bathroom! Love.

Family Room Pillows

Family Room Pillows

Two places spotlight Tibetan lamb in the family room…look closely at the sofas for pure white lamb pillow accents! Since this photo was taken, I’ve also added a navy lamb throw over the hide bench in front of the fireplace.

Natural fibers give that organic flair to any space. I’m loving mine and have multiple selections for you to try right now on the retail floor. I hope you’ll stop in for a little Tibetan trending to call your own.
