Grand Foyer. We treat a foyer this size as a room. You can see all of the elements of the room here, starting with a beautiful Pinnacle Award-winning custom bench—a true piece of art. A medium-size dining table becomes a center hall table, and a handwoven rug serves as another piece of art.
Grand Foyer. This chandelier caught my eye a full year before the foyer was framed and painted, and I could see nothing else would fill the space as this one! At seventy-two inches high and 60 inches in diameter, it’s not one inch too big for the space. The sculptural design of this adds exactly what was needed from views in every direction, including the second floor hallway.
Grand Foyer. A handsome and formal wide stairway leads to the second floor bedrooms, each with an en suite bath. Pause on the landing to study the custom silk faille drapery and note the trim on the lead edge that we designed for this unusual window depth. A cherished sculpture is part of the drama here, placed on a table from Black-eyed Susan’s design team that couldn’t be more perfect or more beautiful! Here is a view of the smaller (yet not!) sister chandelier to the one in the grand foyer. The beautiful color flows throughout most of the home and is contrasted by white custom moldings. I do love those painted ceilings, a career trademark for over 25 years.
Grand Foyer. It’s a treat to look down on the foyer from the second floor balcony, with so many details to take in. This room is a true statement that opens to five other rooms, each a complementary beauty.
Gallery. Four crystal chandeliers set the scene for this room. Be prepared to take your breath away! A wall of three French doors easily opens for formal entertaining, extending outside to formal gardens and patios large enough for dining or dancing. Inside, imagine a pianist entertaining you while intimate conversations take place in this strikingly light space. Four high style chairs are perfectly placed on the marble floor, which contrasts the deep espresso stain of the rest of the floors, each having a place for intimate conversation and a drink. Take in the lovely, historically-based ceiling detail. It is simply a beautiful and favorite room.
Formal Living Room. The formal living room is right off the library and it exudes a light and airy elegance. With a palette of white and pale grey, creating a nuanced design is reflected in all the subtle textures. We choose grass-weave grey shades interwoven with hints of metallic silver strands. And of course, there has to be animal print! The chairs are upholstered in lovely cut velvet in a gray and white cheetah pattern and the rug features an ever-so-subtle zebra print. Polished chrome, and a marble and a crystal chandelier, add the bright and glistening elements that make the room shine.
As you enter through the front door into a stunning foyer, this view into the formal dining room takes your breath away. Soooo many dramatic elements in this room! We designed the room with an extended table for fine dining, with service for twelve. Two consoles extend along the wall opposite the fireplace, and the deep espresso finish with contrasting white doors are completed with jewelry-like hardware. This expanse fits perfectly with the homeowner’s love of gourmet dinner parties, when a place for serving in style is a priority. Subtle textured, light grass cloth covers all of the walls and just pause to look at that ceiling! Gilded gold wallpaper makes the ceiling a work of art. A custom rug woven using especially selected wool poms to match the fabrics and wall coverings completes the room and contrasts with the stunning dark wood-stained floors. Would you have the courage to purchase white on white dining chairs? Nothing else would have fit the vision we were asked to deliver. (A little bit of zebra print on the backs of the chairs is just perfect!)
A grand, oversized chandelier in crystal and gold makes a statement to remember. Lighting throughout the entire home was both challenging and exciting to select and many hours were spent on finding the perfect collection to blend from room to room. It’s always a joy when a client is delighted by such a selection of fine lighting! I’m hard pressed to select my favorite and you’ll soon see why! This closeup of the chairs gives a finer view. One large statement vessel as a centerpiece is just right, and the triptych art just thrills me. Modern. Light. Engaging. Stunning!
Opposite the double banked consoles is a little part of the original structure of the home that was basically leveled. New construction began with just the two chimneys that remained. Updating the original mantel design, yet keeping a bit of history, was the goal for the fireplace. Sconces were mounted on the mirror and as part of our styling and finishing touches, I added this starburst mirror that had been used in a former home. The simplicity of selenite logs repeats the love of crystal used throughout this statement dining room, and is a good choice for mantel decor that doesn’t overwhelm the room.
A formal powder room is often seen by guests and close to the dramatic foyer, and we wanted to make a statement of fine design and formal living. Rich gold tones dominate the room in the mirror, sconces, hardware and wallpaper. We love partnering with Phillip Jeffries wallpaper, and this pattern did not disappoint! Appointments that make the room are the custom vanity with mitered marble top. Selenite sconces serve as art, and take a peek at the chandelier reflected in the formal mirror. A coral fan sculpture mimics the wallpaper pattern, and a touch of a white mini orchid makes the perfect statement on the vanity.
Can you imagine being a guest in this striking, sunny breakfast room? The table seats breakfast for eight, and four more could join using the chic bar stools upholstered in a beautiful white textural performance fabric. Polished nickel finishes bring stylish and bold drama into the design. And who doesn’t want omelets under a crystal chandelier? Everything about this room plays off the mirrored refrigerator (in the background), an original custom design selected by this very stylish homeowner!
The formal library is one of the most used rooms when family gathers here. The former dining table was repurposed as a library table, and four leather-capped armchairs provide seating for cards, laptop computers or light fare. The sculptural chandelier is just another piece of art in the homeowner’s collection of delightful chandeliers! Rich, custom library-like cases hold memorabilia and family collections, cherished photographs and awards. And while the young adults sit around the table with games and cards, two stunning leather wing chairs welcome friends to converse and discuss the day. A custom window treatment softens the room in a tailored design.
Step into an intimate media room at the bottom of an extra wide staircase. A combination of chic, light upholstery and rug are punctuated with several organic touches that add warmth and real living. Built-in storage and floating shelving house white accents, which keep the soothing neutrality of the design intact. One of our favorite floating bars backs up the to sofa and adds a space for three for snacking, iPad use or casual conversation. A cozy room for a ladies night, a family gathering, or an afternoon getaway!
Here is another view of the media room … and yes, with performance fabric on the barstools! We make living with beauty real.
Everyone will want to gather in this fully stocked bar with all the style to go along with it. A bank of two 4-light pendants create a continuous line of artistic, yet manly lighting. The ceiling design by Zaveta Custom Builders adds the perfect detail to the warmth of the fine woodworking. Add the large screen TV and leather and rattan barstools for a cool night with the guys … or gals! No need to go out, it’s all here.
Another family gathering space is adjacent to the bar area. Note a favorite design where two sofa/chaise style upholstery pieces fit like a puzzle. When space permits, this is a truly perfect layout for a room that demands plenty of seating and ample room for lounging. Extended four seat sofas with an additional chaise provide ample seating, napping or lounging! Two booked coffee tables give everyone a place for drinks with storage for an extra blanket or throw. The wide wood paneled sofa arms, graphic area rug and storage console with marble doors are the design elements of the room that add interest.
Master Bedroom. This double story large master bedroom boasts room for a beautiful king canopy bed. A striking combination of rich espresso and polished nickel, this bed is a personal favorite! Classic with a modern touch, the bed was easily paired with fine bedside chests from a redesign a few years ago in the homeowner’s former home. Add a Tibetan lamb bench with acrylic legs at the foot of the bed, and you’ve just walked in to a five star master bedroom! Finely crafted custom draperies have layers of blackout screens and lovely sheers for daytime light diffusing. The views are impressive, and light filtering sheers here were the perfect choice. You’ll have to use your imagination for yet another beautiful chandelier in this room (and the adjoining sitting room, not shown). Neutral ivory and golds keeps the room on par with the vision of soft, lovely, calm interest.
Master Bathroom. The master bathroom en suite represents the art of bathing. This bathtub is exquisite and a piece of art on its own. It sets the stage for an ethereal color palette. The sheer drapery, with a silver metallic block pattern, delicately accents the tub. All of the polished chrome appointments create a bright and elegant glow throughout the room. And no worries, when you’re ready to sink into that tub, there is a privacy shade hidden under the wallpapered valance!
Guest Bedroom. Coming home to visit the family is a treat in this cozy and stylish bedroom. With the intention to create a modern and chic bedroom, a light color palette was key. From the textured, upholstered headboard with a washed wood finish, to the cream lacquer chest, subtle artwork with glitter and mica, and a mirror-framed mirror, all the elements are lovingly layered and welcoming. It’s perfect for a returning successful professional or a weekend guest.
Guest Bedroom. Staying in this room is equally comfortable while visiting the family. This bedroom has a more casual feel, yet still tailored. With a linen upholstered bed, stone top side tables and bold and colorful orange accents, these elements create a refuge for any guest. The custom artwork is from our very own Amy Lee, a project manager on staff who is a talented artist. They are perfect companion pieces, add just the right amount of edge to the design, and bring in the silver organic accents. The challenge in this room was pairing function with style and purpose. We had limited space for bedside tables, and these are just perfectly sized for the limited dimensions we had. With a lamp, nightcap, phone and book … who wouldn’t want to be a guest here?
