art and function make a favorite kitchen

This finished kitchen is one of my favorite spots in the home! From special appliances to the hood that alone stands as a piece of art and function, along with the clean white subway tile and beautiful hardware, it’s hard to say what part of this room design is my favorite. Put all together, this room begs for family and friends to gather here and functions as the heart of the home beautifully. Open to the great room and beyond, it is a joy to spend time in. Coming from someone who loves to bake, this is one fabulously alluring space.

Once again, the black and white theme rules this room design. Shaker style cabinetry is clean and modern, while the brushed gold hardware speaks the language of style perfectly. Notice the extra long pulls used horizontally for a bold statement. Loads of drawers over doors were specified for easy access of all kitchen needs. I’m a big fan of drawers, drawers, drawers in kitchen design!  Note the underlit floating shelves, and this grand hood! It’s a bit difficult to tell, but we used a combination of gold and silver finishes on the hood, which ties all the kitchen finishes together beautifully. One of my Instagram hashtags is #icancookhere. That about sums it up!

This angle of the kitchen shows the large work island, striking pendants, overhead sconces above the sink, and the dramatic custom builtin which is not only fabulous display eye candy, but functional for everyday plates and serving pieces. Once again, Iron Ore from Sherwin Williams was selected for the custom paint. I can’t get enough of this color!

The pendants are oversized and bring exceptional style to the kitchen.  Undersized lighting is often a big kitchen mistake. Be bold! Don’t worry about something larger than you have used in the past. This is sheer perfection.

The custom fabric valances are from the same fabric used on the large functioning panels in both the great room (seen previously) and the game room. The open concept really is defined and pulled together with the use of one fabric throughout this space.

The black iron accent lamp on the side bar gives both function and style, complimenting the strong black accents. I could spend my whole day in here … or maybe the great room … no, perhaps the second floor common seating? But I really want to have hot cocoa at the second floor kitchenette … you get the picture! It’s a dreamy place all around!

This shot is a great study in perfect placement. I have to mention that all of the items are usable and some of them daily! Because of the depth of the color, the white contrast is important. Scale of the objects is just as important and you will find just the perfect amount of natural wood tones to break up the collections. I love that this is both artistic and functional, with interest. The drama of the height of the cabinetry greatly adds to the interest and the beauty of this room. Study this closely for the interesting combination of sculpture-like items that give #purestyle to the bibliotheque. This adds a truly personal touch to the kitchen, it’s just joyful to see the delightful array as you pass through this space. Note the oversized tall doors and the scale of the mullions here. It’s safe to say, this is another personal favorite space!
